Just a reminder to 4th Grade Teachers that The Franklin County Historical Society has 3 Traveling Trunks (Field Trip in a Box) available for check-out for the coming school year. Contact: Ann Moedl, tamoedl@plmw.com for further information.
The Franklin County Historical Society, with the help of a grant from the Idaho Community Foundation, has put together three traveling trunks. What is a traveling trunk? These trunks are a field trip in a box, so everything comes to the class in a trunk. Objects are hands-on with teacher supervision. Each box has a costume that a 4th grade boy or girl in our class can model. Trunk activities can be planned for a short period of time or can stretch into all day.
How do I check out a traveling trunk?
To schedule and checkout a trunk, email Ann Moedl at tamoedl@plmw.com. A $50 deposit is required but is refundable if all trunk contents are returned. Trunk checkout is for two weeks unless another class requests the trunk. You must pick up and return the trunk.
Where do I pick up and return the trunk?
At the Franklin County Extension Office. Someone will be there to check it out to you, but you can return it during their office hours and they will return it to the FCHS Office.
Are there other trunks available?
Yes. Traveling Trunks, specifically one on the Northwest Band of Shoshone Nation, can be checked out from the American West Heritage Center near Wellsville. Contact information for a list of objects is available at the American West Heritage Center website – www.awhc.org/educate. You must pick up and return this trunk to them. These can be checked out in Franklin County, but call early in the year to schedule as they are much in demand throughout Cache County.
